Obituary of Fleming Clarence Darel

Fleming Clarence Darel (A “great” Dane) In quiet peace, the love of his family and in the arms of the angels Fleming went forward on his next journey. Born in Chatham on June 6, 1932 to Elizabeth (Darel) Hansen & father Hans Darel. One of three children (Irene, Chris, & himself) he spent most of his life save for the last five years in the Chatham- Kent area. He began his working career in London as a hat blocker with the Shuttleworth Hat Company. He moved to Morpeth as a young man to raise two children (David & Janice) with former wife Janette (Darel) Hills. Fleming was a member of the Morpeth United Church & a Kent County School Board member. A man of many skills & talents. Fleming had several career paths. He was a blacksmith assistant to his stepfather (Ted), a truck driver for an egg company, a hairdresser, a beauty supply salesman, and a furniture salesman. In the late 70’s Fleming began his lengthy career as a Real Estate Salesman in Blenheim. The next chapter of his life was accomplished when he became a Real Estate Broker and opened his office in Blenheim. After several years working hard in his own business he went into semi-retirement working for an established Blenheim company. Fully retired in 2009 Fleming turned his attention towards his putzying about his home, garden and shed with Lillian and the company of their two great pets Chester and Kit Kat. They loved to entertain; Fleming’s favourite meal was a Danish smorgasbord (a special party for his 65th). For the past 5 years the couple resided in Shedden where they have enjoyed family, friends and neighbours. Fleming loved to garden (a would-be farmer riding the lawn mower became his John Deere) he became a real garlic guru! Of course, he would often be seen motoring around Shedden in his golf cart. The new gazebo was his retreat where he would sit and enjoy hour after hour of birds and the outdoor activities. Even this winter on a sunny day he would bundle up and retreat with his new friend Tommy (Cat!). “Hugs” were his specialty, he considered eight a day “a really good day”! Saddened by his loss, his wife of 29 years, Lillian will be comforted by the memory of his love and caring as a gentle, easy going husband. He will always be a “great Dane” who shared a lot of wonderful hugs and good times with all of those who knew him. Survived by his loving partner in life Lillian Addley-Darel; by his daughter Janice (Bob) Ingram and their children Scott (Heather) Perdu and Rob Ingram; his son David (Charlene) Darel and their children Krista (Dan) Legg and Kyle Darel; by his brother Chris Darel and family; sister-in-law Sheila Englehart and family; his brother-in-law Glen (Marlene) Addley and family; and by his nieces, nepews and many wonderful friends. Predeceased by his mother Elizabeth (Ted) Hansen, his father Hans (Elsie) Darel; sister Irene Burley Pachlarz; brothers-in-law Bruno Pachlarz, Fred (Sunny) Burley, Albert Addley, Clarence Englehart, and Richard and his wife Ruth Addley; and sisters-in-law Barbara Darel and Joy and her husband Ralph Neill.
