Obituary of Walter Victor Carter

Obituary Walter (Walt) Victor Carter – of Terrace Lodge, in Aylmer, passed into God’s Presence at his late residence on Sunday, January 21st, in his 81st year with family and friends by his side. Dearly loved husband for over sixty years of Margaret Carter (nee Smith). Loving father of Christine and her husband John Shaw, and Dan Carter and his wife Deb. Proud Papa of Amy and WD Shaw, Ryan Easton and Paul and Mandy Carter, all of St. Thomas. Born July 14, 1937, the son of Wallis A. Carter (1980) and Emma Carter (Kelley) (1992). He is survived by his sister, Ruth Couture of London, brother-in-law Wayne and his wife Lise Smith, and sisters-in-law Lowanna (late Jack) McCallum and Jean (late Raymond) Smith. Also predeceased by brother-in-law Don Smith and his wife Marg. Walt was a gifted mechanic, well known in the agricultural community, having been employed as both service and sales manager at Don Williams Farm Equipment for 28 years. He retired in 1997 from A. Schulman Canada where he worked as a millwright. In retirement, he worked for several years with Bearss Grounds Maintenance. Walt was a Charter Member of both The Kettle Valley Pioneers and the Union-South Yarmouth Optimist Club. He was an avid collector of antiques, especially anything made by Allis Chalmers. Walt was always willing to help and generous with his unique ability to problem-solve anything mechanical. He loved his boat and so enjoyed fishing Long Point Bay with family and friends. He was a member of Eastwood Fellowship Baptist Church, a wonderful congregation who loved him and whom he loved. Arrangements entrusted to Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin St., St. Thomas (519-631-0570) where visitation will be held Wednesday, January 24th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral Service will be held at 11am, Thursday, January 25th at Eastwood Baptist Church, 400 Wellington St., St. Thomas. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Gideons International in Canada or the Alzheimer Society of Elgin-St. Thomas. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Terrace Lodge for the wonderful care Walt received in his last years. Words are not enough.
