NETHERCOTT- Charles Frederick of St. Thomas passed away at London Health Sciences Centre-University Campus on Thursday, June 7, 2018 in his 85th year. Charles is survived by his loving wife and best friend Marilyn Nethercott of St. Thomas; by his sons Dave Nethercott of St. Thomas, James Nethercott and his wife Sandra of Dorchester, John Nethercott and his wife Isabelle of St. Thomas; by his grandchildren Amanda (Michael) Ayre, Jennifer Nethercott (Derek Karnes) and their children Keegan, Lochlan and Nolan, and Wendy “Sparrow” Nethercott; by his sister Helen Townshend; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son Terry Nethercott (2010) and his sisters Beatrice Ingraham and Jean Smith. Charlie attended Scott Street School and AVVS. His first job was delivering bread for Canada Bread, and he later worked at the City Gas Station and drove an oil truck for Dowler Karn. He then worked at the St Thomas PUC for many years until retirement in 1994. He coached minor league baseball for a number of years. Charlie loved to tinker in his garage; he spent 40 years restoring and maintaining the 1967 Mustang he bought for $300. He was a handyman who could fix anything from bikes to cars, plumbing and electrical, tangled fishing lines and even 8 track tapes. He loved watching and listening to birds, enjoying his backyard bird feeders. He was a fan of nature programs on TV, especially Dr. Pol. Charlie loved the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays and secretly wanted to run both teams (maybe not so secretly). An avid music lover, he enjoyed country music by Charlie Pride, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, John Denver, Daniel O’Donnell and Vince Gill.
His favourite movies were God Is My Co-Pilot and The Lord of The Rings. Always a good neighbour and friend, he was willing to help anyone out no matter the project. He loved his morning coffee meetings with friends at Burger King. Charlie loved his family and was very proud of his granddaughters and great grandsons. Charlie will be truly missed.
