Mary Begg

Obituary of Mary Begg

BEGG – Margaret Mary (nee Clarke) of St Thomas passed away peacefully at Elgin Manor with her family at her side on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the age of 82.  Beloved wife of the late Garry Begg.  Mary is survived by her children Jodie Begg of St Thomas and Shane Begg of London; sibling-in-laws Franklin (Marilyn) Begg and Judy (Stan) Linkovich; many nieces, nephews, extended family.  Predeceased by her parents W. Harry and Elinor Clarke and Clara (Prosser) Barrett of St. Thomas, Sister Eleanor and her husband Jerry McGrenere, sister-in-law Shianne and her husband Russell Ouimette. Mary worked for many years at Weatherhead a division of Hayes Dana, in St. Thomas. She started her career as a keypunch operator, then computer operator and ended her career as a self-taught program writer. Mary enjoyed spending many hours in her beautiful garden, planting and tending to her flowers.  She loved watching the animals play and snack on seed.  She had a true love of nature and loved having her afternoon coffee (Tim`s) and scratch tickets in the park.  When Mary was in Elgin Manor she would light up when coffee arrived and off to the garden she and her family would go. Usually if you could not find Mary and Garry on a Saturday night you didn`t have to look further than a Horse Race and or a Casino. Her sister and brother-in-law were not far behind.  Mary enjoyed her music, when you would walk into the family home there was always a little 50`s and 60`s or piano, instrumental music blaring. Mary was a very patient and extremely sympathetic, empathetic soul.  She would listen to your every word and never judge. You could count on Mary to be there!  She loved her family unconditionally. A special thank you to the entire staff at Elgin Manor.  The team was so wonderful to Mary. They took time out of their busy days to make Mary laugh until she cried by dancing silly and joking with her. The Interment and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the spring for family and friends. Arrangements entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570).  Interment of ashes in South Park Cemetery at a later date.  If desired, donations to Alzheimer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.  Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca
