Ingeborg Cormier

Obituary of Ingeborg Cormier

On Wednesday October 25, 2023, her loving family said goodbye to Ingeborg Regina Cormier (nee Kramer) who passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 89. Inge is survived by her son John Scheel, daughter-in-law Jo Ann; grandchildren Chloe and Renee; sister Sigrid Vella (late Angelo), nieces and nephews, Rob Vella (Stephanie), Anne Davis (Jeff), Joseph Jaeckel (Olga) and Jacqueline Vella (Wayne). Predeceased by brother Lothar Jaeckel. Inge also has a large, loving extended family through her daughter-in-law. Inge was born in Westphalia Germany on February 12, 1934. She immigrated to Canada in 1955 with her late husband John Scheel (1964). Inge and John built a wonderful life together in St. Thomas, Ontario. Inge later became beloved partner to Andrew Breninck who passed away in 2017. Inge’s greatest joy was being a mother to John and Jo Ann, and loving Omi to Chloe and Renee. She was a natural at being a grandmother and always had an extra spring in her step when the girls were around. The girls adored Inge and recall spending hours of fun with their bubbly Omi at her pool, the delicious elaborate Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners Omi prepared, and the meaningful conversations as they got older. Inge’s zest for life was inspirational. She woke up at dawn and hit the ground running, moved non-stop until she went the bed. It was the simplest pleasures in life that gave her great joy. She enjoyed gardening and growing vegetables, happy to share the harvest with friends and neighbours. She had deep affection for animals and took pleasure in feeding every creature that came to her backyard. Her cat Rusty will miss her terribly. Inge also loved going to garage sales and hosted her own which were always a huge success. Everyone who knew Inge would describe her as a kind, hardworking, selfless, generous person who was always happy to lend a hand, whether it was caregiving for a sick neighbour, or visiting a friend with cancer to brighten their day. Inge will be sorely missed. Her passing will be felt by many whose lives she touched in so many ways. Her memory will continue to live on, inspire us to be better, love more, and cherish the moments we have with our loved ones. We respect Inge’s wish to have no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, friends and family can make donations to Animal Aide of St Thomas-Elgin, 333 Talbot St, St Thomas, ON, email: animalaidestthomas@gmailcom . Arrangements entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570).  Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca
