Obituary of Maria Van Dyk

Van Dyk- Maria (nee Speelman) of St. Thomas passed away peacefully at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the age of 97.  Beloved wife of the late Cornelis Van Dyk (1979).  Maria is survived by her loving children Arie (Helen) Van Dyk of St. Thomas, Pieter (Leona) Van Dyk of St. Thomas, John (Freda) Van Dyk of St. Thomas, and Jane Van Dyk (Terry Shannon) of Toronto.  She was a grandmother to 14, great grandmother to 57, and blessed to be a great-great grandmother.  Fondly remembered by her siblings Ronnie VanKempen (Adrian†), Wilhelmina Vandergeest (John†), Martin† Speelman (Toni), Joanne Mantel (John†), Ina Hoogstra (John†), John Speelman (Corrie), Lydia De Ruiter (Walter†), Arie Speelman (Joanne†), and Mary Gibbons (Doug).  Predeceased by her son Cor Van Dyk (2013) and by her brother Martin Speelman.  Maria was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands to the late Pieter and Maartje Speelman.  Her greatest delight was to see her family and to attend church on Sundays.  The funeral service will be held at the Free Reformed Church 145 St. George Street, St. Thomas on Monday, April 7, 2025 at 11:00 am.  Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.  Interment in Elmdale Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570).  In lieu of flowers, donations to MS Society of Canada would be appreciated.  Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca
